Colin (to pronounce on its French name) Benders’ parents met in the kraak-/hippiescene of Utrecht. His father’s occupation is a philosopher / esthetician and former professor and faculty director of the School of the Arts in Utrecht. His mother is African-American (born Harlem), from its 9th in Paris has grown up and then lived in several other countries (Italy, Germany) before ending up in the Netherlands.

In its 3rd year Colin gets a trumpet of his uncle Jacky Terrasson (half brother of mother), jazz pianist from New York. Watch his sixth – when his front teeth had changed – he may play on. His uncle dragged him to various festivals (including North Sea). Bender grew up in the Utrecht district Stars. In the ordinary elementary school it is difficult, several diagnoses are made, including ADHD and autism. From his eighth year (group 5) may his musical talents at the Cathedral Choir School in Utrecht, which develop in addition to regular classes much time for music, especially vocals, but also music theory, solfege and music. Colin has been cantor of the cathedral choir. From his five tenths stops singing.

After primary school he went to high school for young talent at the Royal Conservatory in The Hague where he learned to focus on trumpet. Les gets inter alia by Eric Vloeimans. After he once stuck in 4 HAVO he lacked the structure to make it. He is admitted directly to the Conservatory itself. Here it stops after two years.

Colin has three sisters: two older and one younger.

Solo

Bender moved on 18 years of age to Utrecht Overvecht three years and was busy writing and recording his debut album “The Hermit Sessions”. He lives in the session but is often jobs to black seeds. Album

The album The Hermit Sessions was released on February 20, 2009. This album has been played all parties Benders themselves, but live is done by “Kyteman’s Hip Hop Orchestra. Kyteman’s Hiphop Orchestra played at many festivals. She stood in 2009 at Pinkpop, Lowlands 2009, Appelpop 2009, North Sea Jazz 2009, Euro Sonic / Noorderslag 2009 and 2010. Clips

On March 10, the clip “She blew trumpets like” true. The number Feat. GMB is incorporated in England and is directed by Menna Laura Meijer and produced by 100% halal. Kyteman’s Hiphop Orkest

This project combines Benders jazz with hiphop. He himself is trumpeter / bugelist and conductor of the orchestra. The orchestra has 12 musicians and 10 mc’s. The lyrics of the album are English and French. The musicians include 2 violins, 1 viola, 1 cello, 3 wind instruments (trumpet, trombone, horn), 2 keyboard players, 1 percussionist, 1 drummer, 1 bassist and Kyteman itself as trumpeter / bugelist. Many musicians who are now part of Kyteman’s Hiphop Orchestra from 2004 to 2008 were members of the emerging jazz-rap band Illicit and the Dutch band Voicst.

POPULARITY

Hiphop Kyteman won his Orchestra in 2010 during the Popprijs Noorderslag. The Pop Prize had never gone to such great company. […] The jury was deeply impressed by the concert and was the winner among others met the criteria: authenticity, inspiration, self-will and of course success.
